LC 10 goes SOLO

Watching Youtube helped us understand WHAT SOLO is and HOW to use it effectively and the most important WHY we are using SOLO in LC 10.

WALT use SOLO taxonomy to help us talk about our learning.  Using criteria or learning intentions we placed ourselves on the SOLO continuum. After learning what makes a GREAT photo we shared why we were at that stage.

We are multi structural because we know what makes a GREAT photo, but we don't always take GREAT photos.

We are relational because we know what makes a GREAT photo and we take GREAT photos.

We are extended abstract because we know what makes a GREAT photo, we take GREAT photos, but we also can use our newly found skills to edit, email, export into other apps and can take a range of photos, i.e. action shots.

Liam's Family Holiday

On Saturday after rugby we went to Omarama and stayed in a motel.  The next day we went to Queenstown for Nana DiDi's birthday, she was turning 70. My cousins came from Dunedin and Sydney, all together there was 14 people.  We went skiing at Remarkables Ski field it was fun, I went on the chairlift with Tom and Dad.  On the first day I went on the sugar bowl.  On Thursday we went on the gondola and luge with all the family, I raced Tom, Dad and Zach.  On Friday we all went out for dinner at the Lonestar for Nana DiDi's birthday and on Sunday we came home to West Melton.  It was great to get home and see Bruno and Ella, as we had really missed them both.

Place Value

We couldn't decided which song we liked the best.  The first video got a lot of thumbs up because...
  • learn how to read numbers over 999
  • there's a funny part - humor helps us to remember important facts
  • lots of time to read the big numbers
  • catchy tune to help us remember
  • opportunity to read the numbers by yourself then the song tells you

  • repetitive
  • helps to read numbers up to 999
  • uses place value blocks
  • catchy song
  • tells you to put 1 digit in each place

I Wanna Be a ...

Matariki 2014

How are your Swan Plant cuttings going?  Are yours looking droopy or have yellow leaves?  Pick the yellow leaves off, no need to waste the plants energy on these dying leaves.  It takes a couple of weeks for a root system to establish, so don't panic.

Keeping your cuttings inside and in a bright and warm place will provide your cuttings the nourishment to begin to grow into a strong and healthy Swan Plant.  Just look at all the plants outside of LC 10! They came from cuttings we did last year, don't believe me just ask any of the kids from 2013.

If you have any questions or comments about your cuttings leave us a comment or try leaving us a Voicemail :-)

Brody's Awesome Auckland Adventure

Brody shared his journal (not a diary) of his time in Auckland. Brody moved down from Auckland at the beginning of the year, so he doesn't get to see his family all the time.

Brody's writing style reminds me of how Tim Gates writes, what do you think?
Give Brody 2 stars and 1 wish for his writing?

X Country

Thanks to our photographer Lucy who took some great action shots.  I love how you all had determination to finish the race (Self-Believers) as well as being supportive and encouraging of others (Team Player) as others crossed the finish line.

Leave a comment telling us what your favourite part was.
Remember to only use your first name :-)

How to make great a photo

So if you want to make a great photo don't have to much sun or shade because if you have to much sun you can't  see your self and if you have to much shade it's going to make it blurry. You want sun and shade to make a perfect photo.
