WALT (we are learning to)
In Maths we need the children to learn knowledge and strategy. Knowledge is about numbers, i.e. counting forwards and backwards, skip counting, ordering numbering, knowing about place value, what comes after and what comes before.
Here are our next steps for each stage that your child is learning.
Addition and Subtraction progressions (let me know if this link doesn't work)
And the other part of maths is strategy, how your child solves addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems.
This can also be found at the back of your child's test book.

Bertie the Butterfly
We have a new face in LC 10, his name is Bertie the Butterfly. He is here to help us understand "What makes a GREAT butterfly garden." He also has a few friends we might get to meet along the way.
Have you got any questions for Bertie? Don't forget to leave your name so he can reply to you.
Bertie tells us that he is a part of a special group of animals called pollinators. What do you think Bertie does to be a pollinator and how is he important for our gardens? Do you know any other animals that are pollinators?

Walkathon
192 laps was LC 10's combined effort! We had a great time chatting away to our friends, singing songs and of course trying to evade the Zombies on Mrs P's Run Zombie app.
We were walking up a storm and here are our highlights.

My highlight was walking with so many children who were trying to walk as many laps as they could, what great self believers you are LC 10!

I didn't like the Walkathlon because I got tired legs. I only did 9 laps. I was happy when it was over.by Leila.

Our wonderings
Trying something a little bit different, recording our wonderings about our Butterfly gardens instead of writing them. We used Youtube as part of our immersion and we got so many ideas and have so many wonderings. Have you got any wonderings about butterfly gardens?

We are Entomologists
Is this a butterfly or a moth? How can you tell?
Have a look here to see if it is a butterfly or a moth.
This is a Painted Lady Butterfly. I just love her eyes, they are so big but still very delicate. I wonder what flowers she likes to drink nectar from?
Yesterday at Lachlan's building site he found this insect which he thinks is a Katydid or NZ Bush Cricket (thanks Google
). Have you ever seen anything like this before?
Coming back from our singing we saw this sunbathing out by our class. Do you know what it could be? Look at it's bulging eyes!
Hmmm does anyone know what kind of animal this is?
What strange looking animals these are!

ANZAC
This website has a great reenactment of an Australian submarine used to try and capture a vital shipping route for their allies, the Russians. Share your thoughts in the comments. Remember about what makes a great blog comment.
Australian submarine Animation
This website has games, activities, songs, videos and reenactments. It's a great interactive site.
ANZAC videos and photographs
This site blows me away, I feel like I have been transported back in time to Gallipoli in 1915. The graphics kept me captivated while learning the logistics of the ANZAC's landing.
Hopefully like myself you get to appreciate the how difficult the ANZAC's campaign was and gain a new appreciation of what they did for our countries.

Our wild selves
After making our Where the Wild things art to go with our If I was King/Queen of the Wild Things pieces of writing we had a go at making and building our own, Where the Wild things are. This neat online activity had a small group of children become experts that taught the rest of the class.

3 Kahuku
Popped into school today and found we had 3 Monarchs bathing in the sun. 2 were recently hatched and one was very content hanging onto KC kid pictures.
I have also recently found out the Maori name for Monarch is Kahuku (u is pronounced like oo)
I didn't get any photos as Mrs Busch's children Lachie and Kenzie let them go outside after they had fed them. Jessie McKee also helped.
